When I arrived in Paris on the 2nd of March it was the middle of fashion week. Exploring the city of Paris it was immediately evident that the streets served as a runway for many. The level of creativity and uniqueness that was displayed through people’s looks, was unlike anything that I had seen before in Melbourne. The artists and fashion empires that I had previously been exposed to, who pave the way within the fashion industry for their new and revolutionary ideas, now seemed unremarkable. It is not surprising that fashion designers in Paris are constantly bombarded with new inspiration and creative stimuli, as they merely need to walk outside their door and witness the thousands of gifted individuals reimagining their style constantly.
When attending the Chanel show from afar, paparazzi infested the streets. It is a shame that due to my luggage weight allowance, I was unable to pack more exciting clothes. If you were dressed in Chanel or any impactful outfit, for that matter, there is no doubt that you would appear in a Getty image or a fashion week article.
Due to the painful reality of travelling with only 25kg, I have had to work hard to keep my daily outfits somewhat interesting. Thankfully now that Paris fashion week has concluded the bar has substantially lowered, and I now feel best dressed on most subways. The thrift stores in Paris are quite affordable compared to home, so I have discovered the art of accessorizing as a means to switch up an outfit.
Today I successfully bought my 5th pair of sunglasses on the trip. In previous days I have purchased colourful scarves, burgundy leather gloves, hats and pearls which have all assisted me in my struggle to regain credibility in the streets of Paris. Making a statement with your makeup, such as a bold blue eye is also an incredible way to hoodwink those around you into believing your style is somewhat compelling. If you can include one accessory or unique makeup decision in your look, I have found that you can do a very convincing job at making your look appear fashion-forward. Especially if that item or look is something that is not typically a societal norm or commonly worn in the current time period. As long as you keep it simple and classic with the remainder of the look, most times the inclusion works extremely well. Or if you are not travelling and can buy as many clothes as you desire, wear a whole outfit worth of statement pieces because life is too short to not be the noisiest-looking person in the room!
Much Love,
